Other than Disney, which only added them in 2013, none of the major cruise lines employ lifeguards on their ships. So when you hear about kids drowning or getting severely injured in cruise ship pools, it should come as no real surprise. Beyond this, there have also been cases of people falling overboard and drowning because the cruise ship did not have the technology aboard to find and save them.
